INTERSTING INFO: From the 1958 Schreiner's Iris Lover's Catalog: Deep violet Iris are important because of the element of richness which they inject into an Iris planting. The startling contrast which they present to the delicate orchid, pinks, whites and cerulean blues invests every color with a fresher beauty to the unconsciously jaded human eye. Black Onyx, one of the most superlative Iris we have ever offered, flaunts inky blue-black standards and violet-black falls. A precisely sculptured Iris with beautifully domed standards and falls of that magnificient broadness so eagerly sought by modern Iris hybridizers. Black Onyx might be called a bluer Sable Night, but it differs also in respect to its jaunty, flaring form. This nicely branched Iris with its delightful ruffling and generous size is destined to become one of the classics of Irisdom.
