COVER: The cover of the catalog is of thick cardstock, with detailed texturing. The title is simply: An Iris Lover's Catalog with the year 1942, printed below the Iris print. These catalogs were small compared to the majority of their catalogs: 10.625" long X 7.75" wide. The only decorative nature of the catalog was an iris print on the lower right-hand corner, depecting the "seriousness" of the catalog for the "informed iris grower."
ABOUT: The early Schreiner's Iris Lover's Catalogs were very much different than todays. While Cooley's Iris had long established color photographs in their catalogs with brief descriptions. Schreiner's was about presenting Irises that were better performers, than looks.
Photos in these catalogs were moderate and were always in black and white. Their top feature was the 100 Best Iris in which the rank by performance cultivars (tall bearded only) in each color category: Whites, Plicatas, Amoneas, Light Blues, Medium Blues, Violets, Blue Blends, Mauve and Mauve Blends, Light Pinks, Medium Pinks and Rose, Purples, Bronze Purples, "Reds" and Coppers, Yellow Bi-Colors, Yellow Blends, Yellows and Creams.
They were still stationed in St.Paul, Minnesota, at the Riverview Station. Their show garden was located at 1350 S. Robert St. I'm not sure if some sort of remnant of it still exists.
