COVER: This 8.5" x 11" catalog is a representation of one of the early color catalogs. The 1952 Catalog did not feature any one iris.
ABOUT: In this catalog, and for many catalogs through the mid-60s, Schreiner's Iris incorporated the works of Carl Starker, a floral artist with arrangements of Irises into unique indoor settings. Also included is an article by Elmer Hallberg, a landscape architect in describing the use of irises in various settings.
GREETING: A house without a garden is like a hearth without a fire, a brook without a ripple, a child without laughter. No matter how small one's home, if it is set in a garden, it becomes a mansion. Beauty weaves a spell of true enchantment over the humblest dwelling.
Today Americans are garden conscious as never before in history. Millions of old and new homeowners, who once depended on a few annuals for garden color, now seek the far superior beauty and more nearly care free qualities of perennials. For sheer aristocratic, ethereal beauty, as well as easy cultural requirements, Iris surely stand near the head of the list. You don't have to take them up over winter; they don't peter out in a few years, but develop into gorgeous clumps that will make your garden the showplace of your neighborhood.
Almost everything you buy begins to depreciate in value the day you purchase it. Not so Iris! A single rhizome will become a generous clump in two years time-worth far more than when you purchased it. Thus Nature is on the side of they beauty-lover and makes an investment in living-beauty uniquely profitable from the esthetic and mundane standpoint.
Do not hesitate; therefore, to buy the best. Beauty is worth more than a pittance! Persons who were content a few years ago with a few packets of seeds now think nothing of ordering $25 to $50 worth of Iris. Nothing can give more thrills, more abiding satisfaction than a beautiful garden.
Whether your order is for $5 or $100, we will fill it conscientiously with some of the finest rhizomes produced in America.
Our 18 acres of Iris plants, reset yearly for maximum size and vitality, are grown in the fertile Willamette Valley between the Cascade and Coast ranges. This scenic area, where even the wild flowers are largely bulbous and rhizomatic in type, possesses natural advantages which have made it the center of the bulb industry in America. The performance of our rhizomes and their rapid increase is attested by a huge volume of enthusiastic testimonials and a high percentage of repeat orders.
We want to thank our many thousands of customers for their kind letters and generous patronage. Our pledge is to continue to do all in our power to make gardening a thrilling experience.
