COVER: This 8.5" x 11" catalog features three of Schreiner's 1963 introductions: Pompano Peach, Sateen and Tyrolean Blue. All except Sateen are still available in commerce. This cover, like the 1962 cover, is unique in that its art and format were not duplicated in any other Schreiner catalog. The effect is to promote irises that seem out of this world.
ABOUT: Other than the cover, this is a typical catalog where it's type ran until the mid-70s. Irises were listed alphabetically, followed by their description with pictures scattered throughout the catalog. The font style consisted of the variety names in a sans-serif, all-caps font. The description was then slightly smaller in a serif-type font. They would use this format for many decades, perhaps until the 1985, but definitely by 1987, where the blue color was used for the names.
GREETING: We have always viewed gardening as a labor of love and we feel sure most of our customers do likewise. People are said to want gardens that need less care, that do not need to be planted, weeded, sprayed, pruned or dug up and stored in Fall. Iris, the most undemanding of flowers, fit ideally iinto such a comparative work free picture. As long lived perennials, Iris need not be planted yearly. Ordinarily they require the minimum of spraying and never any pruning or fall digging and over winter storage. Acknowledged "Queen of the Springtime Garden," Iris glamorize the garden making a magnificent showing in late spring and early summer.
If you haven't planted any new iris recently, you will be amazed at the size and beauty now bred into modern iris. If you already have some modern iris, and are eager to add to you collection, this catalog brings you good news. For the first time we have added TWO Bargain sections, near the rear of the catalog, where you can obtain the very finest iris at remarkable savings. This is our way of sharing with you the benefits of good propagation. With over 300 of the world's finest Iris varieties listed (many at special bargain prices) this catalog affords both the novice and the connoisseur an opportunity to add immeasurably to the joy of gardening.
