COVER: This cover features the 1981 Introductions Bridal Crown, Hot Line and Lorilee. In the background is the photograph "Iris Time at Schreiner's," which has been used as a backdrop in every Iris Lover's catalog from 1964 to the mid-1980s.
ABOUT: This is a typical catalog from the 1970s/1980s. Strangely, the font color of their new introductions had reverted back to black from the previous two year's blue.
GREETING: 1980 certainly started the decade off with a real "bang!" What a year it was for us. We thank you all for your loyalty, patronage and orders. Besides Robert and Bernard Schreiner - the next generation our third, in the persons of David and Raymond, have been working full thime with Iris. They as well wish each in their own way to extend their Thank You.
Weather all year was the optimum. The morning Mt. St. Helens erupted I was out in the seedling patch looking at the new beauties when my neighbor called my attention to that clouded pinnacle. We are located 80 miles to the south and west of the site and we have had no problem whatsoever. It was, of course, heartrendering to hear the concern of our friends throughout the country and even from across the seas. The telephone started ringing early and so many letters so graciously expressed your concern.
We always like to hear how your gardening experiences have come along. Of course, an extra dimension is provided by your photographs which allow us to see your own spot of beauty here on earth. Iris growing is a great sharing experience. We are so happy to be able to offer you the marvels of this precious flower. May your 1981 gardening season bring forth more of God's Wonders.
