INTERSTING INFO: From the 1939 Schreiner's Iris Lover's Catalog: The new "black" iris; practically a self. The standards are deepest black-purple and the sheen of the heavy falls is so lustrous that a large part of their areas appears literally black, reminding one of the color of black pansies, which are also literally black save for a blending of deepest purple near the edges and the center.
Webmaster Note: The original image was a black and white photograph that was digitally colored by the webmaster. The second photo shows the orignal black and white photograph.
Officially, the parentage is not listed, it was found accidentally in an article by Robert Schreiner in the book Garden Irises written by Lowell Fitz Randolph and published by the American Iris Society 1959.
